Arnhild Haagensen

STATEMENT

My work is a colorful manifestation of my imagination, where pop icons fuse with my fantasies, dreams and desires, creating a both dark and humorous, sexy and strange kaleidoscopic world. Where people see blood and pain, I see life and passion. Where they see naked men, I see multiple versions of myself. Where they see cute panda bears, I see extinction and loss. I like the idea of people being confused about my works, though, and I have to admit that some of them are still like dreams to me: they hide in themselves their very own secrets and logic.

Eowyn Ruud-Olsen

Men hva skjuler maskene egentlig?
Vi føler alle det samme, men det er ofte kun ”in the moments in between that we get to see the real «us». Definetely in this modern society, where massmedia and personal profiles play such a big part. But what is life really? it is everything we see around us.

Viktorija Osurkovaite

I remember a wise man telling me once: «Don’t be an artist, unless you really really have to». I must say, I really tried. But it didn’t take long to realize that being an artist for me is not a choice, and not even a necessity. Each single good and bad day confirms in numbers of different ways that being an artist is my one and only true life purpose.

My main goal as an artist is to reach the highest possible levels of creativity, to master my craft like nobody else before me, to be extremely productive in terms of exploiting every ounce of potential that I have and extracting the best performance out of it all, directing this performance towards creative contribution and positive change in the world. That is what I am living for, studying, learning, mastering, practicing, experiencing, struggling through each and single day, and that is what I am going to do each and single day for the rest of my life, enjoying each step of my evolution and growth.

Being a successful artist is not only about selling and getting famous. It’s about understanding your purpose, your calling, and about presenting yourself and your work with confidence and conviction about who you are and what your art stands for. Genuine willingness to grow and experiment with new styles, subject matters and techniques, to continually evolve and advance in your practice, and to reach out to others in more and more creative ways – that’s what it means to not only successfully survive, but also to successfully thrive and prosper as an artist creatively, intellectually, physically, consciously and financially.
