Why Line Dance? Queer Organizers on Movement, Space and Community

Line dance is having a queer moment — and it’s not a coincidence.
Inspired in part by a thriving queer line dance scene in the US, organizers across Europe have spent the last few years building their own communities from the ground up — and they are packed, joyful, and growing fast. This panel brings together some of the people behind that movement to talk honestly about what’s actually happening: why queers are showing up in droves to learn choreo together, what it is about Western aesthetics that we keep reclaiming and remaking as our own, and how a synchronized dance floor becomes one of the most genuinely inclusive spaces we can create.
We’ll talk about the work of building something new — what it takes to establish events where people feel free to move, take up space, and come back week after week. And we’ll get into why this particular art form, with its roots in communal participation and its campy, costume-ready aesthetic, is finding such fertile ground in queer Europe right now.
